What's in a name?

The words Paper, Scalpel, Rock underpin our philosophy. Our programmes and events are predicated on delivering in three key areas for our participants.

Like the game “paper scissors rock” our Live Events offer multiple options to test your skills. It is fast paced and results are immediate, the landscape is predictable however, what’s coming next is uncertain. It’s an environment of serious results yet at the same time it is fun and a great way to develop your skills and confidence.

Dr Paul Scott

Anaesthetic Specialist at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Australia, Paul has been using Simulation Based Education for training a wide variety of medical professionals for the past six years. Paul has a special interest in Crisis Resource Management and Error Management.

Associate Professor Kersi Taraporewalla

Kersi is currently the Director of Education and Research in the Department of Anaesthesia at the Royal Brisbane Hospital and a full time anaesthetist. We are privileged to have him as part of the PSR team.

Dr Hau Tan



Dr Hau Tan is a consultant anaesthetist working at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. He is a respected educator working as a lead instructor in Anaesthetic Simulation and Airway Courses and running exam preparation tutorials for Advanced Anaesthetic Trainees. His professional interests include anaesthesia for ENT and vascular surgery. He likes to drive fast cars and play basketball.

Dr Matt Doane



Matt is very passionate about education and has experience running and developing coursework in various countries. He currently works as an Anaesthetic Staff Specialist at Royal North Shore Hospital, NSW and serves as Departmental Head of Academics & Research.

Dr Rob Miskeljin



Rob is an Anaesthetic Specialist working at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and in private practice across Brisbane. He has a special interest in Airways Skills Training and Anaesthetic Simulation where he is a lead facilitator.

Dr Louisa Heard



Louisa is an Anaesthetic Staff Specialist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. She has a particular interest in Airway management, UGI/oesophagectomy, Bariatrics, Obstetrics, and in continuous quality improvement, with a focus on teaching and training.

Dr Cathy Brooksbank

MBBS (HONS), Dip of Anaesthetics UK, FANZCA, EMAC Instructor


A crises instructor since 2004, Cathy successfully manages a private anaesthetic practise in Brisbane and a young family. Cathy’s passion is enabling other professionals to hone their human performance skills through knowing their environment, utilising all their resources and practising effective communication.

Dr Eliza Doneley



Eliza is a full time Staff Specialist Anaesthetist at Redcliffe Hospital. Teaching (especially simulation) is her passion, which is evident by the recent completion of her fellowship in simulation and Education’ at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. She has also completed a Graduate Certificate course in ‘Flexible Learning and Simulation for Health Professionals’.

Dr Mitchell Morse



Mitch is a full time staff specialist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Anaesthetic Department. He completed a combined airway and bariatric fellowship in 2013. His professional interests include bariatric and major upper GI surgery, as well as a maintaining a large research and Quality Assurance portfolio. Mitch chases the snow to for snowboarding and runs a competitive BBQ team, recently winning the Australian BBQ championship.

Dr Jason Pincus

Currently working as a Specialist Intensivist/ Anaesthetist at the Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital. Jason has a special interest in advanced airway management, trauma and aeromedical retrieval When Jason is not working he is busy trying to catch his 3 young boys all under the age of 5.

Dr Julia Slykerman



Julia is a Staff Specialist Anaesthetist at The Prince Charles Hopsital and also works in private practice in Brisbane. She is particularly interested in doctor welfare, crisis resource management and medical education via simulation and is an APLS and EMAC instructor.

Dr Alexandra Thorley

FANZCA, Grad Cert Clin Edu, PostGrad Cert Aeromed Ret, BMBS, BSc


Alexandra is a full time Consultant Anaesthetist at Flinders Medical Centre in South Australia, where she pursues her passion in Clinical Teaching and Simulation, especially Crisis Resource Management. Her other professional penchant is for Aeromedical Retrievals from which she has countless interesting, and some downright scary, stories to tell.

Jesse Spur

Jesse is a Nurse Educator with a clinical background in Intensive Care. Jesse has a strong background in a full range of inter-professional simulation education in clinical settings including Intensive Care, Anaesthetics, Emergency, Obstetrics and General Practice.

Dr Tim Byrne

Currently Tim is working at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne as an Intensivist. His professional interests are in critical care medicine, anaesthesia, education & educational research, simulation and developing World Medicine.

Dr Adrian Skidmore



A specialist Anaesthetist in private practice on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Adrian has also developed his simulation facilitation skills over the last 7 years. He is a senior instructor on ACRM and EMAC courses.
